How George Arrests Work
George counted 1,077 residents in the 2020 Census. That made it Lyon County's second-largest incorporated place. The city has no police portal. The George city code spells out the reason: a contract placing law-enforcement protection with the Lyon County Sheriff's Department. So no George police roster exists. There is no city booking page or daily blotter either, and calling this a separate police system would be inaccurate.
A George arrest with a county booking enters Lyon County's system once the jail receives the person. The Lyon County Sheriff's Department runs that operation. State troopers, DCI agents, DNR officers, and federal agents deliver arrestees there as well. George may still be the arrest location. But the county sheriff keeps the record. Always read both fields.
Charges can shift after booking. A count filed on arrest day may later be amended, reduced, or dismissed by the court.
Where George Arrests Are Published
The county publishes two official PDFs. Each serves a different purpose. Neither one includes booking photographs, the city officials page is only a contact list, and news or aggregator sites can trail the official record.
| Source | Custody scope | Photo and authority |
|---|---|---|
| Jail Inmate Roster | People presently listed in Lyon County Jail | Official; no photo shown |
| Arrest Press Log | Rolling arrest activity, including some released people | Official; no photo shown |
| George city officials | Municipal contact and custodian routing | Official; not a photo source |
| Lyon County Reporter | Delayed county news and sheriff briefs | Secondary; verify each fact |
| RecentlyBooked Lyon | Unofficial county index claiming a 30-day view | Secondary; not current-custody proof |
The roster tracks who is in custody right now. The press log covers roughly 30 days and may list releases. Someone can drop off the roster yet still appear in the log. A fresh booking works the other way. The PDF may not have been regenerated yet. No county page promises an hourly refresh.
Find Someone Arrested in George
Begin with a specific question. Present custody, a recent arrest, a release, and a court outcome all live in different places. Working in that order keeps an old log entry from being mistaken for current confinement.
- Open the current roster. Record its generated date and time before searching.
- Use the PDF find tool for a name or charge. Review date booked, bond, and reason booked.
- Use the Arrest Log for the wider reporting window. Match George in the location field and check the arresting agency.
- Call Lyon County Jail at (712) 472-8356 if current custody must be confirmed. Online absence can reflect release, transfer, another facility, redaction, or export delay.
- Use Iowa Courts Online for the later filing and disposition. Contact the city or sheriff for a report that is no longer in the rolling PDF.
The county offers no live George feed. There is no countywide 24-hour page either. The 24 Hour Arrests page lays out the same-day fallback. A cutoff printed in an arrest-log header describes that one report, not a guaranteed upload schedule, so verify directly when an arrest just happened.
George Arrest Record Requests
The policing contract raises a custodian question. Call George city offices at (712) 475-3612 for a city-held record. Ask which office keeps the material. The sheriff handles anything tied to a county booking, jail entry, or sheriff incident report; the city posts no booking-photo policy, fee schedule, or response deadline, so none should be promised.
- State an exact or narrow date range and the George location.
- Name the agency if it is known and include the incident number from the press log.
- Identify the desired item: incident report, arrest entry, bond or release data, or another named record.
- Ask separately for a booking photograph “if maintained and releasable.” Public PDFs do not show one.
- Request the custodian's estimate of reasonable actual production costs before work begins.

Municipal records routing
County material goes to the Lyon County Sheriff's Department, 410 S. Boone St., Rock Rapids, IA 51246, (712) 472-8300. Iowa Chapter 22 permits written, phone, or electronic requests. Access stays record-specific. A custodian can withhold juvenile identities, victim details, medical information, sealed records, and parts of an active investigation.
George Booking Record Fields
The roster keeps things brief. Its headings cover date booked, charge, inmate name, bond amount, and reason booked. There is no public search filter. Download the PDF and use text find instead. A blank bond field means little on its own. Bond can be set or changed after the report is exported.
The press log adds arrest date, arresting agency, arrest location, Iowa code, charge count, incident number, warrant number, bond amount and type, and release details when given. Arrest date and booking date are related but not identical. An incident number is an agency reference, not a booking number. "Reason booked" is not a disposition either. Disposition means the formal court result. Dismissal, acquittal, plea, conviction, or another outcome all count.
| Record state | Correct source |
|---|---|
| Current county custody | Jail roster, then jail phone verification |
| Recent George arrest activity | Rolling county press log |
| Released county booking | Press log or direct records request |
| Case filing and outcome | Iowa Courts Online and clerk |
| State prison or supervision | Iowa DOC offender search |
Why George Has No Blotter
A missing George arrest portal actually tells you something. The city code points to contracted sheriff service. That makes the county roster and press log the only documented online routes. It also explains why an event in George carries Lyon County branding. The branding shows up on its official booking record. A second city feed is not waiting to be found. The county pages are the answer. The official George city source names the municipal officials and contact route. That helps when record ownership is unclear.

The city's official page supports routing questions to city offices. It makes no claim that George runs its own arrest database or booking-photo feed.
George Arrest News Sources
Two newspapers cover the George beat, and neither runs a live booking feed. The Lyon County Reporter prints weekly arrest and citation briefs from around the county. The West Lyon Herald leans toward west-county towns, yet its sheriff coverage sometimes reaches George. Neither paper publishes a George mugshot gallery. Neither one claims to. For a third-party index, RecentlyBooked is the closest county-local option. It posts updates many times a day. It also notes that Lyon County releases no booking photos. Take those claims with caution. Entries can sit stale, skip names, or reflect an older charge. Treat the site as a lead only. Confirm custody with the jail, then check the press log for arrest details. Let the court settle the outcome.
George Arrests After Release
A release from the Lyon County jail ends one custody event. It does not end the record of it. The name leaves the roster fast. The rolling press log may still show the arrest for a while. Once that window shuts, a targeted records request becomes the practical path. The sheriff's News page keeps some release notices for up to six months. It is no searchable booking archive, though.
For custody alerts covering county jail and state prison, see VINELink Check. It does not offer photos or court outcomes. The Lyon County arrest hub maps every county-wide source in one place. Nearby routes differ. Compare Rock Rapids Recent Arrests and Inwood Recent Arrests.
Note: Verify a George location, the arresting agency, and current custody separately, since one county record answers only part of the question.
